16:00 – Mahut v Falla
Rankings are 144 and 64. Head to heads are 1-1.
Both players lost in the first round of Wimbledon but each match was remarkable. Mahut was obviously involved in the marathon match with John Isner which ended 70-68 in the final set and Falla was leading Federer by two sets to love but Fed came back to win although the 4th set went to a tie break.
Its safe to say that Mahut has a consistent serve! His first serve percentage is 64% and wins 79% of points following a successful first serve.
Falla hits 58% of first serves and wins 69% of points on first serve.
In the tournament before Wimbledon I watched one of Falla’s games and particularly his serve fall apart under pressure. He served well against Feder but when the pressure was on he couldn’t hold it together, losing the fifth set 6-0.
Mahut starts at 1.69 and for me has to be favourite.
Back Mahut on serve.
Update: Mahut won 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.
22:00 – Navarro v Ram
Rankings are 141 and 98. They haven’t played before.
Ram is defending champion here and is on home soil.
Navarro is an old fashioned serve and volley player. He serves 66% of first serves in but the rest of his game can be suspect.
Ram has the home crowd behind him and lots of points to defend so will be well prepared for this match but it won’t be easy. He also has a decent serve and the rest of his game is a little more consistent.
Watch the opening couple of games to see who settles in quickest but Ram can be backed on serve. If Navarro is backing up his serve with the volley and is holding easily then he can also be backed on serve.
Could be a close match.
Update: Ram won 6-3, 7-6.
