Chennai Open – Friday

11:40 – De Bakker v Tipsarevic

Rankings are 96 and 38. They have never met.

De Bakker has had a good tournament so far and looks like he will be climbing the rankings this season if he can keep it up.

Tipsarevic is very solid on serve and his starting price of 1.42 is just about high enough to use the Back the Server strategy. He sometimes makes a slow start though so you are advised to wait to see how his first service game goes.

This could be a close match. 2 tight sets or even a 3 setter. If I was able to trade it I would be simply taking what the match gives me. Wait for an opportunity. For example if De Bakker is struggling to hold serve for 2 or 3 consecutive games and he goes 0-30 down( on his own serve), back Tipsarevic. Be aware though that if he pulls back to 30-30 you should get out and wait for the next opportunity. Waiting and watching has worked very well for me this week.

Tipsarevic’s experience should pull him through this one.

Update: Very tight match with Tipsarevic winning 7-5, 7-5.
