8:30 – Cilic v Djokovic
Rankings are 15 and 4. Head to heads are 3-0 to Djokovic.
Should be a good match. Both men have taken out some big names this week with Cilic despatching Nadal and Davydenko, both in straight sets. Djoker has beaten Soderling and Verdasco.
Djoker wins 85% of his service games to Cilic’s 83%. They both save 66% of break points against them. It could be first serve percentage that is the difference today with Djoker hitting 63% to Cilic’s 55%.
Back Djokovic on serve.
Update: What a difference a rain delay makes! Right from the start Cilic seemed to have the upper hand. Djoker faced 5 or 6 break points in his first 2 service games whereas Cilic sailed through his. The delay came at 2-2 and 40-40 on Djokovic’s serve.
it seemed to ruin Cilic’s concentration and when they came back Djokovic was a different player and won the next 4 games to take the first set 6-2.
Cilic broke serve in the first game of the second set and twice served for the set. However he was broken each time. in the tie break it was close early on until Cilic slipped in the middle of a point allowing Djokovic to win a mini break. That was pretty much the end for Cilic and Djokovic won the tie break and the title.
12:00 – Radwanska v Kuznetsova
Rankings are 11 and 6. Head to heads are 5-3 to Kuznetsova. Radwanska won the last 2 matches that were on fast courts. Kuznetsova won their last meeting which was on clay at the French Open.
Even though Kuznetsova is favourite at 1.55 this match could be a close one. Radwanska struggled to hold serve in her semi final but has beaten some good opponents this week including Dementieva.
Kuznetsova has been very solid and came through her semi very comfortably.
On current form it should be Kuznetsova but 15-40 will be a safer strategy than backing her from the start. If she gets ahead she should be able to hold on to the end of the set.
Update: Kuznetsova won 6-2, 6-4
