Radwanska has withdrawn from the tournament due to her grandfather’s funeral being on Sunday. Li Na goes through to the semi finals.
Del Potro looked a little low this morning at 1.30 and he has shortened slightly since. Tursunov has had a great week so far and played some excellent tennis but I expect this match to be too big an ask for him. I still expect him to push Del Potro’s price a little higher though.
Update: An early break was enough to give Del Potro the set. The second set was tight but a poor service game handed the set to Tursunov. Del Potro easily took the decider.
Del Potro won 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
John Isner beat Djokovic in Indian Wells last year. Not surprisingly the 2 sets he won were tie breaks. Djokovic won their other 3 meetings.
Isner is serving well enough to get to tie breaks again so there is an outside chance that he wins this. Djokovic starts at 1.15 which you really can’t back him at. So if you feel the need to get involved with this one it has to be a lay.
Update: Isner won 7-6, 3-6, 7-5.
Another player worth a low lay is Serena Williams. She hasn’t looked at her best this week and at 1.10 against Halep who knocked out Sam Stosur in 3 sets last night it has to be worth a lay for a trade.
Update: The wrong set was close! Williams won 6-0, 6-4.
For any night owls Azarenka starts at 1.30 against Wozniacki. Azarenka looked in control yesterday against Rybarikova and seemed to be playing within herself. That won’t be enough against Wozniacki who had an impressive win yesterday over Kvitova in 3 sets.
Wozniacki leads the head to heads 5-2 and has “won” their last 4 meetings. Technically correct but their most recent planned match was in March in Indian Wells and Azarenka pulled out before the match started. Their match before that was in 2011 (also in Indian Wells) and Azarenka retired after just 3 games.
Prior to that their most recent match was in 2010. Azarenka actually finished that one and Woz won in 3 sets. So in reality there is sod all we can glean from the head to heads!
Over the last month Wozniacki edges the serving stats and Azarenka is ahead on return of serve.
3 sets are a real possibility. Woz has won just 1 deciding set when priced above 3.00 and Azarenka has won 8 from her last 10 at any starting price.
If Woz wants to win she needs to win in straight sets!
Azarenka to win in 3.
Update: Azarenka won 6-3, 7-6.
The other 3 matches are covered for the SHARK TIPS subscribers.
