17:00 – Ostapenko v Kania
The 12 month stats favour Ostapenko in everything except service holds. She is enjoying her best season. Both her matches have been tight. She beat Pegula in a 3rd set tie break and Barthel 6-4 in the 3rd. She is hanging in there by her fingernails.
Kania has been a bit of a surprise this week. She has been underdog in both her matches yet won each of them in 2 sets. As she is over performing so far this may be closer than the market suggests.
Back Ostapenko if she gets broken first.
18:30 – Lucic Baroni v Crawford
Samantha Crawford has been another surprise this week. She has had very little success outside the USA but finds herself in a WTA quarter finals. Both her main draw matches were won as underdog in straight sets.
Lucic Baroni is on track to defend her title and I expect her to win this one but if Crawford can keep her serving at a high level she will make Baroni work hard.
Lucic Baroni to win in 3 sets. Back her if Crawford breaks and then holds.
