19:00 – Rodina v Crawford
Rodina served reasonably well in the last round. Her second serve was her weakness. She won 44% of points on it and hit 4 double faults. She reached the quarter finals in Baku in July but has struggled a little since then. She retired from an ITF event in Moscow last month. She had tough draws in Cincinnati, New Haven and met Stosur at the US Open.
Crawford had a surprisingly easy win over Minella losing just 3 games as the underdog. She has come through the qualifying rounds in this tournament.
If Crawford can play as well today she could make this difficult for Rodina. I expect Rodina to win but she may need 3 sets. Back Rodina if she gets broken first. She is too inconsistent to back at 1.38 .
19:30 – Tatishvili v Chirico
Tatishvili won their only previous meeting. That was in January this year and she won on a hard court in 2 sets. All the 12 month stats on indoor and outdoor hard courts favour Tatishvili. Indoor only stats give Chirico more of a chance but it’s a very small sample.
Tatishvili’s first round match with Keys was delayed until yesterday. That was probably to give top seed and wild card Keys a chance to recover from an injury but after the tournament organisers gave her every chance to be ready Keys withdrew. Lucky Loser Kichenok took her place and Tatishvili beat her fairly comfortably in straight sets.
Chirico beat Boserup in 3 sets in the first round. It was a scrappy match with Chirico facing 14 break points and Boserup facing 10. Chirico stepped up her level in the third set winning it 6-1.
More recent form gives the edge to Tatishvili but I think this will be close.
Back Tatishvili above 1.80 .
