17:30 – Beck v Hlavackova
Hlavackova won their only previous meeting. That was in 2010 on a hard court and she won in 2 sets.
The 12 month indoor stats favour Beck in everything except service holds.
It was a very easy win for Beck in the first round. She lost just 1 game. Fichman had a very poor day.
Hlavackova has a strong serve and it worked well in the 1st round in her win over Rogers. She was underdog in that match. If she can serve well again today then this could be a very close match.
Value is on Hlavackova. Lay Beck if she goes an early break ahead. She will trade higher than 1.46. Tough to call a winner but I am going with Hlavackova in 3 sets.
19:00 – Ostapenko v Pegula
Pegula won their first and only meeting which was in June this year on grass. She won in 3 sets. On indoor courts the stats are close but slightly favour Pegula.
Ostapenko beat Barthel in 3 sets in the 1st round. It was a messy match. She faced 13 break points (broken 5 times) and Barthel faced 15 break points (broken 5 times).
Qualifier Pegula has needed 3 sets in all of her matches so far. In the 1st round of the main draw she lost the 1st set 1-6. In sets 2 and 3 Gibbs served for the set but was broken and Pegula won the sets in tbreaks. Superb fight back!
I would favour Ostapenko to win a tight match. Probably another 3 setter. Lay the set 1 winner.
Back Ostapenko if she gets broken first.
