Davidoff Swiss Indoors Basel – Tues

13:00 – Chiudinelli v Kohlschreiber

Rankings are 73 and 26. head to heads are 1-0 to Kohlschreiber.

Kohlschreiber is very strong on serve. He hits 66% of first serves and wins 82% of his service games.

He reached the semi finals in Austria last week, narrowly losing to Cilic.

Chiudinelli can occasionally turn in a decent performance but hasn’t done recently.

Back Kohlschreiber from the start or back him on serve. If you back him from the start make sure you are comfortable with the strategy for if/when he struggles.

I expect 2 straight sets to Kohlschreiber.

Update: The match seemed to be going as I expected until Chiudinelli hung on to take the first set to a tie break which he then won. Kohlschreiber then seemewd to take control  to win the 2nd set 6-3. A very tight deciding set was finally won by Chiudinelli with  a break of serve at 6-5

Chiudinelli won 7-6, 3-6, 7-5.

15:00 – Troicki v Becker

Rankings are 29 and 43. Head to head is 1-0 to Becker, however that was 3 years ago.

Neither man has enjoyed much success recently but Troicki is favourite today. He wins 73% of his service games and serves his fair share of aces.

Becker is quite capable of winning the match but I expect Troicki to come through.

Back Troicki on serve.

Update: Troicki won in straight sets 6-2, 7-6

21:00 – Koellerer v Lammer

With the way the odds are moving around and the amount of money being matched on what should be an insignificant game I advise that we leave this one alone.

Rankings are 74 and 351. They have never met.

Strangely there is already 23K matched on this game with 13 hours before it starts. Wouldn’t have expected that for a game involving 2 mediocre players. Having said that, Lammer is Swiss so perhaps that has something to do with it (?)

As the prices are fairly even and they are both inconsistent I would recommend the 15-40 on this match.

Pre-match update- In light of Rob’s comments you are advised to trade the first set only. ( on betfair your bets only stand if the first set is completed. If you’re green by the end of the first set you are safe from any dodgy outcomes)

Post match update: Koellerer won the first set comfortably 6-3 ( that got his price down nicely). He lost the second set just as easily 2-6.  That will have given their mates the opportunity of a huge green and they were left to fight out the 3rd set which was probably genuine. I really shouldn’t be so cynical.

Lammer won 3-6, 6-2, 7-5.

  1. Koellerer’s been involved in more dodgy matches (from a betting point of view) than anyone else in the last couple of seasons. Tread with care.

  2. If you lay Koellerer now you won’t have to get into the mathch, his odds are dropping through the floor!

    1. These type of dodgy looking games always seem to involve a low ranked player from the country where the tournament is being played.
