We saw some decent tennis earlier this morning from Tashkent. Nice to have live video which has been missing all week from there.
Lets a little Davis Cup action today. Some great matches on offer. Don’t forget the matches are best of 5 sets. Live video for many of the matches is on bet365.
Serbia v Argentina: ( indoor hardcourt )
Tipsarevic v Del Potro:
Head to heads are 2-0 to Del Potro with the most recent match being in February this year. Tipsarevic has never taken a set from Del Potro.
Tipsarevic had a good US Open where he retired from his match with eventual champion Djokovic. He was giving his fellow Serb some real problems during that match but sadly had to retire.
Del Potro’s US Open was going well until he came up against Gilles Simon. DP took the opening set and seemed to be on top but Simon came back to win the second set in a tie break and also win the next 2 sets.
I think this will be very close if Tipsarevic is fit. Both players have been hitting the ball quite well although Del Potro’s serve has been below its best.
Tipsarevic has showed that he can lift his game for Davis Cup matches and playing at home will be a huge advantage for him. However I am concerned that he won’t be fully fit and so I expect Del Potro to take this in 4 sets.(1.70)
Update: Tight first set but Del Potro won 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.
Chile v Italy: ( hardcourt )
Capdeville v Starace:
Head to heads are 1-0 to Starace although that was on clay in January this year. It went to 3 sets.
Capdeville has been doing ok on the Challenger tour winning in Birmingham just before the US Open. He didn’t make it through the qualifying rounds at Flushing Meadows.
Starace is purely a clay courter who doesn’t perform well on hard courts. He has also been having some success on the Challenger tour and also won an event just before the US Open but it was on clay. Between Wimbledon and The US Open he playing exclusively on clay.
Starace is currently 1.82 on Betfair but I am favouring Capdeville. Starace did get through one round in the US Open beating Berrer but Capdeville has showed greater success on hard courts in recent weeks.
probably 4 or 5 sets but I will be laying Starace from the start.(1.82/2.18)
Update: Not a great match from Capdeville who was quickly 2 sets down. He pulled a set back but lost the 4th on a tie break.
Starace won 6-3, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6.
