Delray Beach International – Wednesday

16:00 – Mannarino v L Mayer

Rankings are 61 and 109. They haven’t played before.

I’m not sure why Mayer is playing a hard court tournament when there’s a clay court one being played in Mexico. He much prefers the dirt courts.

Mannarino is the up and coming Frenchman who has caught everyone’s attention this season. He was ranked around 300 a year ago and has reached a semi final and a quarter final so far this season on the main tour.

Mayer has only reached the second round twice this year. He has played just 1 match on hard courts which was in the Oz Open and he lost in straight sets to Shwank!

Mannarino holds serve 80% of the time this season compared to Mayer’s 50%.

Back Mannarino on serve or better still back him from the start. Currently 1.47 on Betfair.

Update: I just don’t know what’s going on with these players this week! Mannarino won the match but lost the opening set 1-6. I was expecting him to quit after the first set. However he didn’t and came back to win 1-6, 7-6, 6-4.

19:30 – Sela v Dodig

Rankings are 91 and 60. They haven’t played before.

Dodig is racing up the rankings and was ranked around 190 a year ago. He is in the form of his career and recently won the Zagreb Indoor tournament which was his first on the main tour.

In contrast Sela is struggling for victories. He has won just 1 match from the 5 played this season and has been holding serve just 75% of the time. (Dodig 84%).

Sela must be lacking in confidence and that makes every game that bit harder.

Back Dodig on serve or from the start. If backing from the start green up after the first set.

Update: Another match where the favourite won havinglost the first set easily. Dodig won 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
