Dubai Duty Free – Thursday

17:00 – Simon v Gasquet

Rankings are 32 and 28. Head to heads are 4-1 to Gasquet.

Simon won their most recent match which was in March last year. He won in straight sets on a hard court.

Both have served well this season and have held serve 77% and 83% respectively. The biggest difference is in return of serve where Simon’s stats are much better. Gasquet often finds himself with chances to break but doesn’t convert them against a decent server.

Gasquet is one of my favourite players to watch and I would love to see him win this but I expect Simon to be too strong.

Simon is 1.67 on Betfair which I think is a fair price. Back him on serve or from the start. Eventually a match has to go as expected this week!

Update: Well Simon broke first although he was immediately broken back. He broke again to take the first set. I greened up and left the match. Unfortunately Gasquet came back to win 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
