Dubai Tennis Championships – Wed

10:00 – Robredo v Melzer

Rankings are 23 and 31. Head to heads are 4-3 to Robredo.

Robredo had a good win over Benneteau although the Frenchman was well below his best.

Melzer is having a good season so far reaching tha latter stages of tournaments 3 times.

This should be a close match. Watch how the opening games go to see who is holding serve easiest. I give a slight edge to Melzer on recent form and I would be looking to back him on serve as long as he holds the early games with little trouble.

Melzer wins 80% of his service games and Robredo 78%

Update: Melzer won 6-3, 7-5.

17:00 – Tsonga v Ljubicic

Rankings are 11 and 26. Head to heads are 1-1.

Tsonga is a strong favourite at 1.36 but whilst he didn’t have quite the same tough schedule as Benneteau and Llodra last week he may be lacking a little energy. That will have been helped by Llodra retiring after the first set yesterday.

Ljubicic is a little below his best but he may have a slight chance today. I’d expect Tsonga’s price to trade higher than 1.36  and will look to lay Tsonga from the start and hedge at around 1.65 – 1.70. If  Tsonga gets an early break of serve I will be hedging out for the loss as I expect him to take a tight match.

Update: Both men served well in a tight first set with Ljubicic getting a break at the end to take it 7-5.  The second set was again tight with both serving quite impressively but Tsonga was tiring towards the end. Ljubicic got the break for 5-4 and served for the match.

Ljubicic won 7-5, 6-4.
