Errani v Sharapova:
What an amazing tournament Errani has had. Wins over Ivanovic, Kuznetsova, Kerber and Stosur have brought her to her first Slam final. When the revised ranking are confirmed on Monday she will be in the top 10. As if that’s not enough she won the doubles title with Vinci yesterday. I think it’s safe to say she will remember this fortnight for the rest of her life.
Sharapova goes into this final as the strong favourite. The French Open is the only Grand Slam that she hasn’t won. She also takes over the world number 1 position from Azarenka.
The women’s event has given us unexpected winners in the past few years so Errani really shouldn’t be ruled out. Sharapova lost the Australian Open Final weakly against Azarenka and also lost the Wimbledon final against Kvitova.
Errani has been very consistent and was able to take advantage of her opponent’s mistakes. I’m not sure how many opportunities she will get against Sharapova but for the Italian to win she will need a below par performance from today’s opponent.
1.29 is too low to back. I will wait to see how Sharapova is serving as that could be her achiles heel today.
Sharapova obviously has the greater experience of the big games and that should give her a huge edge today.
