French Open 2013 – week 1, Friday

The rain got us again! It was a long day between all the delays and an even longer night at home as I managed about half an hours sleep. Not sure how much of today’s session I will be awake for.

Two of the picks on yesterday’s blog were delayed until today.

Suarez Navarro had a real scare in the last round against Shelby Rogers and she faces another tough match against Puig. Puig has already knocked out Petrova and Madison Keys and I think she will push Carla’s price well above its starting point of 1.38.

The Spaniard is tough to beat on clay though and I expect her to come through . 1.70 or 1.80 would be a very attractive entry.

Kerber has played 2 excellent matches so far and her form has looked ok. Lepchenko had a tough week in Brussels with a quarter final finish but has also won both matches this week in straight sets.

Lepchenko has a terrible record against top 10 players and has lost 12 of her last 13 against the top ranking opposition. However she has a massive 4-0 head to head record against Kerber. Worth noting though that the last time they played was in 2011 when Kerber was ranked 71.

I won’t be surprised to see 3 sets but if Kerber can keep her high level from previous matches she will come through for the win.
