ATP French open, 10:00 – Gabashvili v Lopez

Lopez leads the head to heads 2-0. Their most recent meeting was in 2007 on a hard court and he won in straight sets. The other was also  won in 2 sets on a hard court.

We have seen some strong recent form from Gabashvili. He won back to back Challenger titles this month ( 1 clay, 1 hard court). He reached the second round at Roland Garros last year. His best finish was the 4th round in 2010 as a qualifier.

Lopez’ recent results haven’t been good and he hasn’t won 2 matches in a row since Indian Wells in March. His losses have mostly been close and to strong opponents though. He also reached the 2nd round last year. He has a poor record at the French Open.

I think Gabashvili comes into this with confidence high. He often disappoints me when I think he can challenge one of the top players but clay gives him a chance of pushing Lopez close today.

Lay Lopez below 1.40. He should win but it won’t be straight sets.

ATP French Open, 11:30 – Vanni v Tomic

Vanni leads the head to heads 1-0. That was earlier this month in Madrid and he won in 3 sets.

Vanni came through qualifying with 3 good wins.

Tomic’s only win at the French Open was in 2012 over Haider Maurer. He lost to Gasquet last year. He has played very well on the hard courts in 2015 but has lost his last 5 on clay including the one to Vanni.

I think value is on Vanni as Tomic doesn’t like the clay and has nothing to motivate him if he goes behind. I’d like to lay him if he breaks early.  Tomic starts around 1.70 .

WTA French Open, 13:45 – Mattek Sands v Begu

Begu leads the head to heads 2-0. their most recent meeting was this season on clay and she won in 2 sets.

Mattek Sands reached the 4th round in 2013 but didn’t play last year. There was a poor loss for her to Rus last week.

Clay is Begu’s best surface. She reached the quarter finals in Madrid and the 3rd round in Rome. She failed to make it through the qualifying rounds last year as the top seed in qualifying.

Mattek Sands will try to hit big ground strokes and could take an early lead. She will fight all the way. Back Begu when a break behind. Begu starts around 1.35 .
