French Open Men’s Final: Thiem v Nadal

Due to start at 2 pm

Thiem 4.90, Nadal 1.25

Nadal leads their previous matches 8-4. They last met in Barcelona in April this year. Thiem won on clay in straight sets. All Thiem’s wins were on clay. Only one of their matches was not on clay.

This is a repeat of last year’s final which Nadal won in straight sets.  Nadal has lost just 1 set so far. That was to David Goffin in the 3rd round. Federer put up a good fight for their first two sets but was always behind.

If anyone can challenge Nadal on clay right now it is Dominic Thiem. Thiem beat Djokovic in 5 sets in the semi final. The match was spread over 2 days due to rain and bad light. He lost a set in each of the first 3 rounds.

Nadal will be a little more rested having beaten Federer on Friday. Thiem has played 2.5 sets in the last 2 days. I don’t think Nadal wins in straight sets. There is potential that this can go to 5 sets. Nadal being fresher will be more significant in a 5th set.

Back Nadal if he loses set 1.
