French Open – week 1, Saturday

I’m not having much luck this week! I had a fall in the early hours of this morning which has caused me problems with my neck and shoulder. Everything hurts!

I have sent out the Betting tips and the Wins a Set list to subscribers but I’m in a fair bit of pain and don’t want to sit at the PC right now.

I will post thoughts on the later games once I have had a long soak in a very hot bath.

Have  fun!

Ok very brief post.

Haas looks good to beat Isner but I think 1.37 is way too low. Tommy’s return stats are far better than the American’s who didn’t move that well in the opening couple of sets yesterday. Over 1.60 is  more like it.

Update: Haas won in an epic 5 setter. Isner has a habit of these but by the end Tommy had worked out that drop shots guaranteed a point as Isner wasn’t running for anything.

Haas won 7-5, 7-6, 4-6, 6-7, 10-8.

The market doesn’t give Dimitrov much of a chance against Djokovic with Novak starting at 1.12. Worth a lay below 1.08/9 but over 5 sets I only see one winner.

Update: Poor effort from Dimitrov.

Djokovic won 6-2, 6-2, 6-3.

Youzhny is 3-3 in his previous matches with Tipsarevic. They have never played on clay.

They both had tough matches yesterday but Tipsarevic’s 5 setter with Verdasco will have been more energy sapping than Youzhny’s 4 sets against Del Bonis.

If I had to pick the better clay courter I would be struggling as they are both more at home on hard courts. Youzhny starts as favourite on Bettfair but I expect Tipsarevic to have more success at the start of the match. Laying Youzhny if he takes a very early break would  seem a decent plan.

Update: All 3  sets were the same. Youzhny won an early break and despite coming close Tipsarevic couldn’t break back.

Youzhny won 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.

Kohlschreiber is attempting to be the first player to last a full match with  Hanescu at this year’s French Open. They have played just once before which Hanescu won.

Kohl’s SP of 1.45 seems very low for a player about to be struck down with illness or injury. Plus Hanescu has been serving extremely well and should be able to keep the sets close.

Update: I don’t think anyone expected a bagel in the first! Hanescu was in control of set 2 but somehow managed to lose it.

Kohlschreiber won 6-0, 7-6, 6-1.
