Just a short post today as I am taking part of the dauy off. I’ll be trading a few matches but am unlikely to be in the chatroom. There will still be plenty traders in there if you fancy dropping in.
Chela takes on Rosol who must still be buzzing from his 5 set win over Melzer in the last round. Often when a lower ranked player has a win over one of the “big” boys his game will suffer in his next match. Rosol is ranked 111 in the workd and is a very competent claycourter having taken the Prague Challenger event recently and reached a quarter final in April. Chela had a tough match with Anderson although he put himself under pressure with a terrible opening service game. He wasn’t able to break down Anderson’s big serve until the second set. Chela is rightly a strong favourite although I will be waiting for a little higher price than 1.27 before backing.
Update: Chela won 6-2, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6.
Fish and Simon have never played on clay but the head to head on hard courts is 1-1. Simon starts as favourite on Betfair at 1.57 but that seems too short to me. He has been a little too passive so far and struggled in the opening set against Chardy. I would actually give Fish a slight edge today even though Simon is playing infornt of a home crowd.
Update: They started off fairly even but Fish seemed to crumble after that. Simon won 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
Ljubicic and Verdasco have only met once on clay and verdasco took it. He seems to have sorted out his game recently and is playing a little more like the Verdasco who could be relied upon on clay ( up to a point ). I am a Ljubicic fan and I think he has a chance today but if Verdasco can find a little extra motivation then he will take this after a bit of a battle.
Update: Great start from Ljubicic. 5-0 up! Healthy green so far….
Ljubicic took the match 6-3, 7-6, 6-4.
