French Open – Week1, Monday

Yesterday saw a few favourites start ok but then lose concentration after a couple of games with some of them losing the firsts et or coming close to losing it. Maybe they thought they had loads of time as its best of 5 for the men.Lets see what today brings. I traded yesterday with just scoreboards to make the best use of my screen space. I actually perform better this way but I find by the end of the day I am quite tired due to the added concentration required.

First chance to see Del Potro today against Karlovic. Both players are coming back from injury though so we don’t really know what we’re getting. If both fit then obviously DP is expected to win but at 1.13 it could be worth a lay in case he hasn’t recovered quite as well as he claims.

Update: The initial lay worked well as Karlovic took the opening set in a tie break. Del Potro came back to win 6-7, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4.

Golubev and Bellucci are also on at 10 ( UK time). Bellucci showed over recent weeks that he has the ability to challenge anyone although his match against Lorenzi in Rome wasn’t great. He may well have been tired or carrying an injury but his attitude wasn’t the best that day. Golubev hasn’t had much success recently but played well enough in Germany taking Soderling to 3 sets including 2 tie breaks. Bellucci will be a strong favourite and rightly so but he isn’t a 1.23 sort of player and expecially not against someone with the talent of Golubev. Whether Golubev turns up mentally is another issue. Wait for a higher price before backing Bellucci.

Update: Bellucci won 6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 7-6.

Troicki starts at 1.25 against German Julian Reister.  Reister has been doing really well on the Challenger clay courts winning the Monza event and reaching a quarter final the following week. he took Davydenko to 3 sets in the BMW Open in a rare week when Davy was playing well. Troicki found some great form towards the end of last week in Germany although he was embarrassingly bad against Mayer. Troicki is obviously expected to win but I would want higher than 1.25 before putting money on him here.

Update: Troicki won 6-4, 6-3, 6-3.

Mardy Fish will have a tough day against Mello. Thats if Mello is in the right mood to fight. I would be very surprised if Fish wins it in straight sets as Mello is a claycourt specialist and it isn’t unusual for Fish’s mind to wander early in a match. 1.30 is again too low although there is a slight chance that Mello just won’t compete so I will have a small part of my stake on from the start just incase Fish runs away with the first set.

Update: Fish won 6-2, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4.

Llodra starts at 1.44 on Betfair against Darcis. Playing infront of his home crowd should give Llodra a lift and he will be focussed from the start ( although that didn’t happen for Benneteau yesterday!). Darcis is quite capable of making a match of this although his recent form isn’t that good. I’ll be backing Llodra from the start and managing my position from there.

Update: Fortunately I missed the start of this one and when I got to it Llodra was a break down. He finally came back to win the first set in a tie break. Darcis won the match 6-7, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3.

Mayer and Dustin Brown go head to head but its Argentinian Leonardo Mayer. Mayer is at 1.48 from the start and as its Dustin Brown this is a lay for me as he can be tricky opponent.

Update: Brown got an early break and somehow held on for the set. He put up a good fight in the second set but lost it in a tie break. Mayer won 3-6, 7-6, 6-2, 6-2.

  1. Hi,

to watch good VIDEO streams just enter “eurosport player” and there is cheap subscription about 3 euros (different in each country) and what is best:

ALL IMPORTANT COURTS ARE STREAMED VIDEO ! all centrals + courts no. 1,2,3,6,7 in total for today i see 9 live streams of roland garros in EUROSPORT PLAYER.

no bookies show videos in RG, so i recommend to do that.
