Stepanek v Youzhny:
Youzhny leads the head to heads 3-2 although they haven’t played since Wimbledon 2008. That was their only previous match on grass and went to Youzhny in 5 sets.
Stepanek loves to serve and volley. Grass is the perfect surface for that game plan. Youzhny is fairly comfortable at the net too but is probably more at home picking off the man at the net with big passing shots.
Stepanek hasn’t been in great recent form although he beat Seppi in a third set tie break in round 1.
Former top 10 player Youzhny has found some of his old form in recent weeks. The grass really suits his style of play and whilst it will be close I favour him to get the win. 1.60 is probably a fair starting price but I will be looking for at least 1.80 during the opening games.
Update: Very tight match. Youzhny won 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
Querrey v Dodig:
They have played just once before which was at Wimbledon 2010. Querrey won that in 4 sets.
Yesterday Dodig won against Tsonga. People are playing down that win saying Tsonga was injured but the fall where Tsonga injured his finger was in the third set. Dodig just seemed to want it more.
Querrey’s first serve is working very well but he isn’t having the same success on his second serves. That gave Benneteau the chance to take the second set and is something that Dodig will be concentrating on today.
Both players had 3 set matches yesterday but Querrey’s was perhaps less energy sapping as there were a lot more shorter points.
I have to favour the American here who starts at a price of 1.45 which doesn’t offer too much value at the start. I feel there’s a strong chance of a “let down” from Dodig after beating Tsonga but also that the first set will be close giving us a better price to back Querrey. Dodig hasn’t had many wins lately and yesterday’s match could prove too much of a distraction for him today especially if Querrey gets his nose in front.
Update: Querrey took the first set but to his credit Dodig kept fighting. Querrey’s serve proced to be too strong.
Querrey won 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.
