So the big Kohlschreiber ended with………….him winning both matches.. As he is already missing the opening ceremony there should be no tank talk for his match today. You could get 1.45 on him last night but the 1.36 that is currently available has lost its appeal. I still think he will be too strong for Volandri. If I wasn’t already on at 1.45 I would be waiting for a higher price in play.
Update: Kohlschreiber was cruising in th first set at 5-2. He managed to lose the set in a tie break. He won the next 2 sets easily.
Kohlschreiber won 6-7, 6-2, 6-2.
The other semi final will probably give more opportunities. Haase’s form is up and down but he is defending champion in Austria and has dealt with his two previous matches well. Klizan will put up a good fight though and I think we will see haase’s price up around evens in the first few games. I expect to see a Kohlschreiber v Haase final.
Update: This couldn’t have gone better. Haase was broken early but broke back immediately. He dominated the match after that. Having backed Haase with 1/3 stake at the start I layed Klizan after the first break with the rest of my stake.
Haase won 6-3, 6-3.
In Los Angeles they are still at the quarter finals stage. The American hard courts attract big servers and it’s difficult to pick a winner.
Mahut and Berankis have both performed well so far ( when will Betfair remove Richard Gasquet’s photo from Mahut’s profile?? ) but I slightly favour Berankis. His recent results are impressive and whilst his serving stats are a little below those of Mahut he is better on return of serve.
Update: Berankis won 6-4, 6-4.
I’m not sure what’s happened to Rajeev Ram recently but he has beaten Brian Baker and Capdeville in straight sets to follow up his semi final finish last week. Leonardo Mayer has had just one recent match on hard courts which was the bizarre encounter with Cipolla in the second round. Cipolla retired with illness after losing the first 10 games of the match. Mayer played well in that match but wasn’t tested at all.
This will come down to who finds it harder to break the opponent’s serve and Ram’s serve has been almost unplayable at times. There will be a tie break ( almost certainly) and Ram’s serve will carry him through. However watch for Ram’s serve starting to fail ( no reason why it should) as he is very limited without it.
Update: Ram took the opening set in a tie break. He then recovered from a break down to take the match in 2 sets.
Ram won 7-6, 6-3.
In the later games for you addicts I expect Russell to be too strong for Matosevic. The American can be outstanding on home hard courts and is playing great tennis this week.
Update: A surprisingly bad performance from Russell. After he lost he pulled out of the doubles to go to Washington for qualifying rounds. Maybe his heart wasn’t in it today.
Matosevic won 6-2, 6-3.
In the other quarter final Querrey is favourite against Malisse. Malisse has the serve to stay with Querrey but Querrey has proved to be difficult to beat on hard courts in the States. It will be tight but Querrey will take it with a single break in each set.
Update: Easy win for Querrey. Malisse retired in the second set.
Querrey won 6-2, 3-1(ret).
I won’t be doing a big write up on the Olympics. It’s just another tennis tournament. There will ofcourse be picks on here each day.
