12:30 – Szavay v Dulgheru
Rankings are 49 and 30. They haven’t played before.
Defending champion Szavay is in front of her home crowd and that shouldn’t be overlooked. She looked a little shaky in the first set of the quarter final but especially in the second half of the second set she was superb. She hasn’t dropped a set this week.
Her first serve percentage this week is 77% and she has won 71% of points on first serve. However her second serve is very weak and she has won just 41% of points on it. She has saved 65% of break points against her.
Dulgheru has had three setters in her last 2 rounds. She has complained of breathlessness earlier in the week and may be running out of steam.
She has served 70% of first serves in this week and won 60% of points on first serve. Her second serve has been more successful than her opponent’s and she has won 54% of points with it.
This should be a very close match but I think home advantage gives the edge to Szavay.
Scalping and 15-40.
14:45 – Schnyder v Ondraskova
Rankings are 56 and 154. They haven’t played before.
Ondraskova hasn’t played much on the main tour in recent months and has had little success when she does. For some reason she has come to life this week beating Cirstea, Vinci and Medina Garrigues. She has lost just one set this week which was in the quarter final.
Schnyder is a little hit and miss this week. Her second round round match was very impressive and on that form I expected her to make light work of Hercog in the quarter final. However she was pretty awful in the first 2 sets and only managed to win the first due to Hercog being a choker and being unable to serve out the set. Schnyder came back a little stronger in the third set.
Ondraskova has served 81% of first serves in and won 59% of points on it. Her second serve is quite weak with her winning just 44% of second serve points.
Schnyder has served 69% of first serves in. She only had 1 double fault in her second round match but served several in the quarter final. She had saved 80% of break points against her although most of those were against Hercog who, when the pressure is on, couldn’t hit a cow’s arse with a banjo.
Schnyder reached the final last year but will have a fight on her hands today. If she plays as she did in round 2 then she will win but if she plays like she did yesterday when her touch deserted her then we could see an upset.
Again, 15-40 and scalping are a safer way to trade it.
