Generali Ladies – Semi Final

15:00 – Pennetta v Wickmayer

Rankings are 11 and 24. They have never met.

This week Wickmayer has made a slow start in each match. She has been able to hold on up until now but I don’t think she will have that luxury today. Pennetta is able to punish a weak start and she could run away with this.

Pennetta is also one of the more consistent of the ladies on serve. So you could back her from the start and green up after a break or at the end of the set. Alternatively use 15-40 and when she takes a lead let a back bet run to the end of the set.

Only one winner here. Pennetta in straight sets.

Update: Hmm, not my day for picking winners! Wickmayer got off to a flyer and took a 3-0 lead. Pennetta pulled her back and was serving for the set at 5-4.  Wickmayer’s turn to come back and she took the next 3 games to win the set. The second was tight and went to a tie break. Wickmayer held strong to take the match.

I had backed Pennetta from the start so soon had to hedge for a loss. When Pennetta came back I  backed her again and then when Wickmayer came back and was at set point I switched to her! The switches were done in a controlled way ( as shown in the video in the members area ) and I felt in comfortable at all times ( more or less!). Ended with a nice £47 profit for my trouble.

Wickmayer won 7-5, 7-6
