German Open – Mon

Gabashvili v Seppi

Rankings of 75 and 48 seem a long way apart but The German Open is played on clay. Seppi is favourite on the market at 1.47 but Gabashvili has been playing well on this surface reaching the Final and Quarter final in his last 2 tournaments.

Seppi hasn’t played a tournament since Wimbledon so he has had chance to get acquainted wth clay but there’s no substitute for match play.

Seppi SHOULD be too strong but this could be a close one. Perfect for scalping or 15-40.

Update: Gabashvili won 6-3, 6-1. I wasn’t able to watch live pics for this match so had to trade from the scoreboard on

I thought Seppi would have put up more of a fight than he did but as I said, there’s no substitute for match practice on clay.

Scalpers and 15-40’ers should have had a nice profit from the match  🙂

Starace v Gonzalez

This is a repeat of this month’s final in Turin which Starace won in straight sets. Rankings are 94 and 97  so a strong possibility that the match could contain a few swings in price. Whoever can keep their unforced errors under control will win.

Starace is market favourite at 1.63 and I think that is decent value.

Strategies? Take your pick! Scalping and 15-40 are suitable here but you could also back Starace at the start and green up when he wins the first set. If you choose to back the favourite, make sure you have a suitable strategy to use if he goes behind. Don’t have one? Check out my strategy at

Update: What did I get wrong there? I called Starace “Storace”…….I got the players rankings wrong ( corrected now) and got the winner of the first set wrong. Apart from that – cracking post! Well done me.

I did recommend that if you were backing Starace that you had a suitable strategy if he went behind. Scalping was again the best strategy and is now without question my favoured method. Generally, my predictions aren’t bad but no-one gets it right all the time. Scalping takes away the need to pick the winner. You simply take the opportunities and profits that the match gives you.

Starace came back to win the second and 3rd sets  so we cartainly had the swings needed for a profit 🙂
