13:15 Melzer v Seppi
Rankings are 15 and 70. Head to heads are 2-1 to Seppi. Both clay court meetings have gone Seppi’s way.
Melzer played extremely well in his last match and must fancy his chnces of taking the title.
Seppi is on his favourite surface. The clay gives him that little extra time to allow him to chase the ball down. He has been in good form over thhe last 2 weeks only losin to Soderling in the quarte finals last week. He’s a typical clay courter who will chase all day and hope to wear his opponent down. Thats not easy to do with an in form Melzer.
Both men are serving well this week with 59% of first serves in and 75% of first serve points being won. Melzer’s second serve has been the more effective of the 2 players with 65% of points won compared to 55% by Seppi.
Melzer is a strong favourite but each set could be close with maybe just 1 break betwen the players.
Back Melzer on serve or from the start.
15;15 Golubev v Mayer
Rankings are 82 and 54. Head to heads are 2-0 to Golubev.
Golubev hasn’t lost a set this week and has had tough opponents in each round.
Mayer played well towards the end of his three setter with Ferrero. He fell apart in the first set tie break to hand it to his opponent. He came back stronger in the second and was a worthy winner of the deciding set.
Mayer is favourite on Betfair at 1.71 . He does have home advantge but I’m not sure it wil be enough. Ferrero just couldn’t find a way past Mayer but Golubev is striking the ball exceptionally well and if he can continue in the same form then he has to be favourite.
Wouldn’t be surprised if this goes to three but Golubev is my pick.
Back both on serve.
