Gerry Weber Open – Tuesday

11:00 – Beck v Stakhovsky

Rankings are 76 and 71. They haven’t played before.

Neither player has enjoyed too much success in the clay season. Stakhovsky did however take Verdasco to 3 sets in the quarter final in Nice.

Stakhovsky has a big serve. If this is on song today then he should take this match.

Beck is on home soil and will obviously have the bulk of the crowd’s support. If the German crowd get loud then that might effect Stakhovsky. He never looks the most confident of men to me.

Wait to see how the opening couple of games go. If  Stakhovsky is serving well and holding easily then back him on serve. Look for how loud the crowd are as this could turn things in Beck’s favour.

Update: Beck won 6-1, 7-5.

14:30 – Kohlschreiber v Stepanek

Rankings are 35 and 25. Head to heads are 3-1 to Stepaanek.

Stepanek didn’t play much during the clay season. The games he did play were on the Challenger tour. In his last tournament he reached the final but retired having lost the first set 6-0. That was last Saturday.

Kohlschreiber is having a decent season. He has performed well on clay and took Verdasco to 5 sets in the third round of the French Open.

He has a very solid, consistent serve and wins 80% of his service games.

I expect Stepanek to be well below par and Kohlschreiber should take this easily. Back him on serve or from the start to green up after the first set.

Update: Match delayed
