Heineken Open Final

02:00 – Isner v Clement

Rankings are 33 and 67. They have never met.

Isner would be my favourite for this but Clement has yet to lose a set this week. His results look rock solid.

Isner has been taken to 3 sets in every match except the semi final and that was very nearly a 3 setter, ending in a tie break. If he can serve as well as he did in the first half of his semi final he is in with a great chance.

The market has them fairly even with Isner at 1.70. Watch the first couple of games to get a feel for the current form. Back Isner on serve and wait for break opportunities

Update: Isner got off to another fast start and took the opening set. The second set was much closer. Isner’s serve was working reasonably well but some of his ground strokes were pretty poor. As the set wore on it looked like Clement who was the more assured player.

At 5-6 Isner was serving to take it into a tie break. He played a very poor game and Clement broke to take the set.

In the first half of the last set it looked like Clement who was going to take it. Both men were holding serve quite easily but if isner’s serve didn’t prove to be the winner the American looked very shaky.

However he hung in there and took it to a tie break. When it really mattered Isner found some of the best tennis he has payed all week and he took the tie break and his first title.
