None of this Hopman Cup rubbish or the Mubadala circus.
Tonight/Monday morning we have WTA Auckland (ASB Classic), Brisbane (ATP/WTA), Chennai (ATP) and the Shenzhen Open.(WTA).
The Chennai matches will attract decent liquidity as the first match starts at 8:30am and allows the lazy traders to avoid a night shift. Also the Auckland matches start at 9pm tonight so I am hopeful that they will attract some interest from tennis starved traders. The matches that are on in the early hours are likely to be low liquidity affairs although these can still be ok for swing trades.
Some of the players have had competitive matches in the off season but I think it will be wise to expect them all to be a little match rusty. I won’t be going mad with the stake sizes this evening/tonight/tomorrow morning.
I think there isn’t a lot of benefit in posting detailed match picks for the first couple of nights as players ( and traders ) find their feet after a longer than usual break.
McHale v Parmentier looks like a potentially decent match with McHale currently at 1.65 . Parmentier won their only previous match in 2 close sets. They both lost in the second round at this event last year although Parmentier had to come through the qualifying rounds first.
Parmentier made me a lot of profit last season although her form towards the end of the year dropped off. The surface should suit McHale better than the French player but she can easily lose focus. If I can get McHale above evens then I’ll take it but with reduced stakes.
Update: McHale starts the new season as she ended the last.
Parmentier won 6-4, 6-1.
The Flipkens v Voskoboeva match is a similar one with Flipkens being my favourite. She is priced around 1.55 but the unpredictability factor is much higher than normal even by normal WTA standards. I expect Flipkens’ serve to carry her through even if he ground strokes are still finding their range.
I’ll be in the chatroom tonight and monitoring voice chat ( although I don’t think anyone has tried it yet!). Voicechat won’t be easy for my during night sessions as my wife is in the next room so I’d have to whisper!
Good luck if you trade tonight.
Update: After a shaky first service game Flipkens moved to a 3-0 lead and easily finished off the set. The second was tighter and went to Voskoboeva in a tie break. The third set was also close with Flipkens taking a late break to finish the match.
Flipkens won 6-1, 6-7, 7-5.
