Indian Wells. WTA qualifying, 5th March

The main draw matches don’t start until Wednesday but Betfair are covering the qualifying rounds.

Liquidity won’t be up to much prematch but as there are no other games on the inplay volumes should be reasonable.

Watson is up against Wozniak. Heather has been in pretty poor form recently and hasn’t had much success in recent trips to America. Wosniak starts as favourite and I think taking it to 3 sets is the best Watson can hope for.

Update: Watson was a break up in both sets but just couldn’y hold on.

Wozniak won 6-4, 6-4.

Laura Robson has won 4 of her last 5 matches in America. Those matches were in the US Open where she came through the 3 qualifying rounds and also made it to the second round of the main draw. She was helped to the second round by Morita retiring after the first set in the first round. Today she is up against Dellacqua. The Aussie hasn’t had many matches recently where she was favourite but has won as an underdog against Morita, Zakopalova and Jovanovski (twice). I expect a straight sets win for Dellacqua.

Update: Dellacqua won 6-3, 6-1.

I’ll be watching a few games at once and looking for favourites to go behind. Low liquidity games can throw up some good value lays as people over react and fill the huge gaps between prices.
