12:00 – Troicki v Baghdatis
Rankings are 43 and 19. Head to heads are 1-0 to Baghdatis.
Baghdatis chose not to defend his title in Stockholm in favour of playing in Moscow. It is looking like a good decision as he finds himself in the final. He looked like he was going out in the semi final when he was 2 breaks down in the third set against Istomin but he managed to turn it around.
Troicki has shown recently that he is capable of beating anyone. He dealt with Cuevas efficiently in the semi final.
Both players have been serving well. Baghdatis seems to have sorted out his problems with his first serve. It has been very hit and miss in the recent past. When its working it can be a devastating weapon and when the pressure was on in the semi final it was the serve that helped get him through.
They hold serve 83% and 78%. Both win 80% of points following a successful first serve.
Troicki posts better stats on return of serve and also converts more break point chances.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see a three setter here. If Baggy wins the first set he can often relax a little too much and gets himself into trouble in the second set. If he loses the first set his intensity increases to rescue the situation.
I expect Troicki to be the most consistent of the 2 players but how will he cope with Baghdatis during his high intensity periods?
Tough one to call but I am going with Baghdatis. His natural ability should be enough to see him through especially i its a tight finish in the third set.
After watching the first 2 or 3 games both should be ok to back on serve.
