16:00 – Tsonga v Troicki
Rankings are 13 and 43. Head to heads are 2-1 to Troicki. Surprisingly Tsonga’s only win came on clay.
Tsonga returned to the tour at the Japan Open following a 3 month injury break. He played well the following week in Shanghai reaching the quarter finals. He was making more unforced errors than normal but that was to be expected and I am sure no one expected to see him in the quarter final of a big tournament so soon. I expect him to get more cosistent as he gets more match play.
Troicki has been in great form and narrowly lost to Nadal in a third set tie break a couple of weeks ago.
Both are serving well with Troicki having more success on return of serve. That, I feel, is down to Tsonga being rusty after his time away. As his reactions get back to their normal levels he will be seeing the ball sooner and being in a position to make a more effective return of the serve.
I expect a tight match but if Tsonga has taken a few more steps towards his normal form then I expect him to edge it.
Watch the opening couple of games to see how they start but both should be fine to back on serve.
Update: Troicki won 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
