Malaysian Open – Final

12:00 – Dokic v Safarova

Rankings are 91 and 35. Head to heads are 1-1.

Dokic won their most recent match which was on an indoor hard court.  That was last month and went to 3 sets with Safarova taking the first set.

Dokic’s serve stats for the last 12 months show her holding serve 62% of the time. She has improved that this week and has held 74% of her service games.

Safarova has also served extremely well with 89% of service games held.

Safarova was a little fortunate to come through her semi final against Groth. The Aussie did her  usual choke in important tight matches which helped a weary looking Safarova to come through.

Going on form this week I think Dokic has a slight edge but its unlikely to  be a 2 set match. Safarova will probably start the better but will tire as the match goes on. I think I will wait for Safarova to  take the first set and then lay her.

Update: The match went pretty much as expected. Safarova started well and was soon a break up. She took the first set comfortably. She went a break up in the second set but Dokic came back and won the set on a tie break. In the deciding set Dokic won a late break to take her to 5-4 and she just managed to hold serve to take the title.

Dokic won 2-6, 7-6, 6-4.
