16:00 – Safarova v Larsson
Rankings are 28 and 67. Head to heads are 1-0 to Larsson.
Both players have been in a bit of a slump in form before this week but they both came through their opening match in straight sets.
Both players hold serve 72% of the time but Larsson has better stats on return of serve. She also converts slightly more of her break point chances.
Larsson loves the indoor courts and I think this will be closer than the prices suggest.
Laying Safarova from the start is an option as I expect her to trade higher than her 1.45 start price. After that, scalping is the way I’ll be trading this. If both players are holding serve regularly then be wary of using the 15-40. However they are both vulnerable on second serve so if they are facing 15-40 and they are on second serve you increase your chances of success.
Tight match but I give Larsson the edge.
Update: Close first set but no idea what Larsson was doing in the second.
Safarova won 6-4, 6-2.
18:00 – Mattek-Sands v Georges
Rankings are 71 and 41. Head to heads are 1-1.
Again, both players came through their opening match fairly easily and without dropping a set.
Georges has had better results over recent weeks and won a tournament at the end of the clay season.
Georges holds 75% to Sands’ 67%. Both win less than 50% of points on second serve.
Their stats on return of serve are very simliar, as are break point conversions.
I have to go with recent form for this one and that puts Georges as my favourite.
Scalping is for me on this one.
Update: Great tipping from me!
Mattek-Sands won 6-1, 6-4.
