08:30 – Gasquet v Baghdatis
Rankings are 53 and 42. They have never met.
Both men have taken some big scalps on the way to this final. Gasquet has yet to lose a set.
Baghdatis ended last season by winning in Stockholm.
Very little between these two. Gasquet probably has a very slight edge and I’d expect him to end this season higher than his current ranking. Baghdatis can be inconsistent at times and brilliant at others. He has been in great form this week though.
Watch the first 2 or 3 games to see who has settled quickest. I would be looking to back Gasquet on serve. Bagdhatis is the one most likely to be broken.
Both are usually consistent servers but they don’t have the big booming serves of the top names. 15-40 opportunities can be taken.
I am going for Gasquet to win the title.
Update: Not sure what happened to the update(??) so will try again……..
Called this match wrong. Gasquet looked very nervous in the opening game and was broken. The rest of the set went with serve with Baghdatis winning it 6-4.
As the second set progressed it was Gasquet who looked to be the stronger player but Baghdatis hung in. The players swapped breaks and they ended up in a tie break.
Gasquet threw the tie break away and will hae to performmuch better to improve his ranking this season. Great fighting spirit from Baghdatis.
Baghdatis won 6-4, 7-6.
