13:30 – Phau v Chiudinelli
Rankings are 98 and 66. They haven’t played before.
Phau has home advantage ( although has lost 8 of his last 9 matches in Germany!) and has the better recent form. He won 2 Challenger events on clay a couple of months ago.
Chiudinelli has been in poor f0rm lately although beat Hanescu in the last round. Having seen Hanescu’s performance at Wimbledon when he threw a game and then quit then I don’t give yesterday’s result much importance.
Neither player serves consistently well although Phau can have games where he does. I think he has more staying power than Chiudinelli and the Swiss player will start to make more unforced errors.
You could use scalping but I would be more inclined to watch the opening couple of games. If Phau is having one of his good serving days then back him on serve.
This could be a close match but I expect Phau to take it.
Update: Chiudinelli won 7-6, 6-3.
17:30 – Garcia-Lopez v F Mayer
Rankings are 39 and 56. They haven’t played before on the main tour although they did meet in a Challenger event where Mayer won.
Garcia-Lopez reached the final of the Aegon International ATP event in June. Mayer reached the final of the Rome Challenger tournament on clay in April.
G-L has a more consistent serve and has played many more games on clay this season than his opponent ( On the main tour). He can sometimes throw in a poor match though.
I was surprised that Mayer is favourite on Betfair. However he has home advantage and played extremely well to beat Kohlschreiber but I’m not sure that’s enough for a 1.70 starting price. Evens might have been more suitable.
Having said that, in his last match G-L was a set and a break down and was less than convincing. The start price is perhaps more down to G-L looking below par.
Watch the opening couple of games but I am favouring Mayer. Scalping will be a safer way to trade. Wait for opportunities and suitable entry points. For example if G-L is serving badly, backing Mayer when he is up 30-0 against G-L’s serve is a good option. Other entry points are explained on the TradeShark Tennis members pages.
Update: Mayer won 6-3, 6-1.
Virtually no money entered the market during the first set making it difficult to trade. I took the profit from the first set and left the match alone.
