11:45 – Greul v Berrer
Rankings are 73 and 45. Head to heads are 2-0 to Greul ( both on clay)
Both players are German so no home advantage to either.
Berrer has lost his last 6 matches. He retired from Wimbledon and this is his first tournament since.
It can take a player a couple of matches to adjust to clay and for that reason I give Greul the edge. Berrer may get frustrated if he is mistiming to ball. He also may not be fully match fit.
Back Greul on serve.
Update: Greul won 7-6, 6-4.
15:30 – Montanes v Petzschner
Rankings are 30 and 38. They haven’t played before.
Both players win over 70% of points on first serve although Montanes has a slightly better successful first serve percentage.
Petzschner has a big first serve which is a great weapon when it is working. He is in great form almost beating Nadal at Wimbledon in 5 sets. His performances on clay aren’t too bad.
Montanes is a clay court specialist although Petzschner has home advantage.
Perhaps Montanes over did the celebrations after Spain won the world cup…..?
Montanes is favourite on betfair at 1.59 but it should be close and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Petzschner take it.
Both should be ok to back on serve but I would watch to see how the opening couple of games go before getting involved.
Update: Petzschner had the better start and took the first set easily. After that Montanes stepped up a gear and took the next 2 sets.
Montanes won 2-6, 7-5, 6-2.
