Just a quick look around today’s games. Liquidity looks poor so far. No real reason to presume that the tennis will be any better than we have seen in the last 7 days so I am expecting a few dogs to come through especially in the early rounds.
Robredo played some good tennis last week although when Ferrer upped his level in the third set he had no reply. If he’s still healthy then 1.41 against Delbonis would seem more than fair. Show me 1.6x in the early games and I’m in.
Update: Robredo always seemed to be in control of the opening set even though it was close. No video for this one but he must have been injured or ill as he only won a single game in the next 2 sets.
Delbonis won 5-7, 6-0, 6-1.
Barthel has brought us a few quids over recent weeks but by laying her rather than backing. She has lost her last 6 matches, all as favourite and in 3 of them she was a similar price to her 1.57 SP today. Bartens won a clay court event in April as a qualifier and beat Halep and Ursula Radwanksa along the way. Her more recent form hasn’t been great but I’ll be looking for a lower price on Barthel to get a lay in.
Update: Barthel chose today to play better! Won 6-3, 6-2.
Tomic is in a very poor run of form and clay isn’t his best surface. At times Paire is like a sulky kid on court when things aren’t going well which is a shame as he has a lot of talent. I’m tempted by the 1.68 on him here but as it’s Paire I would be happier with evens. Tomic’s level of play will yoyo as usual making him hard to predict but get a decent entry point on Paire and you won’t feel under as much pressure to get out.
Update: So poor from Tomic. Several times in the past we have seen a dire first set and then he starts playing a little after that.
Paire won 6-0, 6-4.
I find it difficult to take someone called Jack Sock seriously. I had the same problem with Mardy Fish though and he eventually made the top 10. Sock’s opponent today is Bogomolov who has lost 6 in a row in America and 4 ina row on hard courts. I can only see 1 main draw win for Sock this year which was actually last week in Newport. Several of his recent losses have gone to 3 sets though so a lay of Bogomolov is a decent plan at 1.42 . Don’t get too greedy as neither can be relied upon for an entire match.
Update: Sock won! Haha. 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. No wonder the USA were happy to give Bogomolov back to Russia.
Donald Young has lost his last 13 matches yet he has made the Olympic team! He always walks out onto court with huge headphones on. Perhaps this is the type of thing he is listening to…
Either way it doesn’t appear to be working too well. His opponent today is fellow American Steve Johnson who is ranked 400 in the world. He is also on a losing streak so perhaps Young has a chance of victory. Johnson has a big serve though and Young can break himself at any time. I’ll be laying at 1.53 . I just can’t back Young.
Update: Olympian Donald Young got beaten in 3 sets.
400 ranked Johnson won 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
