Lots of tennis this week and a full 12 hours’ worth of matches today. Liquidity may suffer on some matches so pick your games carefully.
Baghdatis looks good to beat Bellucci who will struggle a little in his first hard court match for a while. Baggy is a little short at 1.50 as both their previous matches were on hard courts and went to 3 sets. I’ll look for 1.75 to 1.80 to back him.
Update: Baggy wasted several break points before he was broken himself. Bellucci took the set. Early in the second set Baghdatis retired.
Bellucci won 7-5, 3-1(ret)
Barthel and Hantuchova have never played before. Barthel’s form within a single match can range from amazing to downright embarrassing. Hantuchova is still struggling to find her own form so I feel that Barthel’s starting price of 1.53 is on the low side. I think we will see 2 close sets or perhaps a 3 setter but with plenty of breaks. Slight edge to Barthel but I won’t be staying in to the end of the match.
Update: Just 2 breaks in the first set but 5 in the second. Barthel won 6-3, 7-5.
Petkovic is back! We have no way to know what condition she is in but I would expect her to need a couple of matches to get near match fitness again. Babos has been in reasonable form but when you expect her to play well she often disappoints. Betfair has them more or less even. Petkovic has played a Tour match since April when she retired against Azarenka so this match really depends on what shape she is in. A semi fit Petkovic should have enough to defeat Babos but I will wait to see that she is competing before getting on her.
Update: A very tight match. Petkovic took the opening set. Seven breaks in the second set saw it go to Babos but it was Petkovic who came out on top in the end.
Petkovic won 6-3, 5-7, 7-5.
