Govortsova v Suarez Navarro:

The head to heads are 1-1 with Govortsova winning their only previous clay court match at the French open 2010.

Suarez Navarro has been in decent form and reached the semi finals in Barcelona earlier this month.

Govortsova reached the quarter finals in that event but then lost very weakly the following week to Pous Tio winning just 3 games.

Suarez Navarro is the better clay court player and starts at 1.41 on Betfair. That is way too low but she can struggle in her early service games and we stand a great chance of getting a much better price in the first half of the opening set.

Wait for Suarez Navarro to be broken before backing her

Cirstea v Soler Espinosa:

Cirstea leads the head to heads 2-0. They have played just once on clay which was last September in the Final of an ITF event in France.

Cirstea reached the semi finals in Barcelona  a couple of weeks ago. She made a poor start in all 4 of her matches but improved as the match went on ( with the exception of the semi final where she was totally outplayed by Cibulkova).

Soler Espinosa lost in the first round in Barcelona winning just 3 games against Dominguez Lino. However the following week in the Fed Cup she beat Hantuchova on clay in straight sets.

Cirstea’s biggest problem is her own serve. If she is holding comfortably then she will win. if she is serving double faults then the nervousness spreads to the rest of her game.

On current form I’d expect Cirstea to take this but as usual with her it won’t be pretty in the opening games.
