This week we have Newport for the ATP on grass. The WTA has 2 clay court tournaments in Budapest and Bastad. Don’t expect a lot of top quality tennis this week as a lot of the top players take a break.
Its not easy to know where the liquidity will be today. There are still some qualifying rounds being played. Very few inspiring match-ups. Well actually NO inspiring match ups.
Rezai would seem a decent lay against Amanmuradova who has beaten her once on clay. You certainly couldn’t back Rezai at 1.33 as she is struggling to find any sort of form.
Update: Amanmuradova was pathetic in the first set which Rezai took easily. The in classic Rezai form she allowed her opponent back into the match and soon it was 1 set each. In the end rezai won 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
Savchuk v Rodina: Head to head is 1-1 but Rodina won their only previous meeting on clay. Savchuk has been pretty terrible recently and even worse on clay. She hasn’t played a main draw clay court match this year. 1.79 seems a decent price on Rodina who has been slightly less terrible! More clay experience will bring Rodina through.
Update: Rodina dominated the first set and seemed to be on her way to an easy win. Not sure what happened as I left the match after the first set but Savchuk won 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.
Dustin Brown plays Bachinger in Newport. They have played once before which was on carpet and Brown won in 3 sets. Always entertaining to see Brown play and if he can serve well he would be my favourite. Bachinger hasn’t won a set on grass in the 2 matches he has played this year although they were against Monfils and Malisse.
Update: Two tight tie break sets and then brown fell apart. Bachinger won 7-6, 6-7, 6-1.
I’ll leave it at that for today. Not easy to predict how this lot will perform so spending hours researching them doesn’t appeal to me.
