Three out of the 4 matches have a short priced favourite.
Murray’s price seems to have moved out a tick or two over night for his match against Gil. Murray should get through that one though neither player was very inspiring yesterday.
Can Troicki take a set from Ferrer? Its a real pity that Robredo was injured as it would have made a superb match. Troicki was very poor to say the least and Ferrer has despatched 2 capable opponents with very little fuss.
Even the set betting market has Ferrer 2-0 at 1.35. Lay Ferrer on the match odds if you like but Troicki will have to lift his games several notches to compete.
Update: Troicki played well over all but Ferrer won 6-3, 6-3.
Will the real Jurgen Melzer please stand up? He looked down and out in the first set of his match with Haase. He had a problem with a fast heart beat. Maybe the heart beat was just faster than it has been for the last 6 months ( its all relative) and is now functioning at the correct rate because since then he has played 4 of the best sets we have seen from him in a long while.
Melzer and Federer have never played on clay. The Austrian has never taken a set from Fed although has managed a couple of tie breaks. IF ( and its a big IF ) Melzer can play like he did yesterday then he has an outside chance of making a game of it. Federer is on his least favourite surface so a lay from the start may be worth a go.
Update: Incredible. Melzer won 6-4, 6-4. Definite off day for Fed but great performance from the Austrian.
Ljubicic beat Nadal in their last match which was 12 months ago. He has never taken a set off Nadal on clay. I don’t see that changing today. 1.02 is a little low though. You never know 😉
Update: Nadal won 6-1, 6-3.
Murray v Gil: Murray has played better this week but why can a top 10 player not get his first serve in consistently? Its the easiest shot to practice. You don’t even need an opponent. I’m sure his serve is great on the playstation but in reality its been a joke. His groundstrokes will probably bring him through this one but I won’t be backing at 1.29. Gil has nothing to lose. If he gets beaten and puts up a bit of a fight then he and his camp will be happy with the weeks work. This lifts the pressure off him and he is capable of giving Murray a scare today.
Update: Easy for Murray. He won 6-2, 6-1.
Looks like an IPL day for me 😉
