Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters – Tuesday

9:30 – Melzer v Mathieu

Rankings are 27 and 48. Head to heads are 2-1 to Melzer. Mathieu won their last match ( 2007 ) but Melzer has won both their clay court matches.

Two players who are having  quite contrasting seasons. Melzer has to be happy with his form so far in 2010. One of my favourite players, he rarely plays badly and always fights to the end.

Mathieu has a great deal of talent but it just hasn’t been  his year so far. He has only made it through one  first round match this season.

Back Melzer on serve or back him from the start.

Update: Fairly comfortable win for Melzer – 6-3, 6-2.

11:30 – Troicki v Kubot

Rankings are 37 and 41. Head to heads are 4-0 to Troicki ( 2 on clay)

Troicki starts as favourite but this could be a close one.

Kubot reached the quarter finals last week but then lost tamely 1-6, 0-6 to Starace.

Troicki wins 77% of his service games. His first serve percentage isn’t great at 58%. However he saves 64% of break points against him.

Back Troicki on serve.

Update: A lapse in concentration in the first set allowed Kubot to take it. Troicki got his act together after that and won 4-6, 6-2, 6-2
