21:00 – Govortsova v Hercog.
Rankings are 85 and 62. They haven’t played before.
Govortsova starts as slight favourite on Betfair at 1.83 as it seems generally to be felt that she has a better game for hard courts.
Hercog is seen more as a clay court player but has performed extremely well this week. Hercog has served better this week and has held serve 79% of the time to Govortsova’s 70%.
Govortsova is well ahead in the return of serve stats winning 56% of points against serve ( Hercog 45% ). She has converted a huge 73% of break point opportunities.
This is a tough one to call. Hercog will need her serve to be up to the high level that it has been all week for her to have a chance. If Govortsova can keep putting her under pressure I feel the serve will start to fail.
So Govortsova is my pick to win the match although I don’t think she will be on top from the start. Hercog’s serve should be well drilled in the early games and she also has every chance of getting an early break.
Either place a small lay on Govortsova from the start or simply wait until Hercog has taken the first set and then lay Hercog.
Very likely to be a 3 setter in my opinion.
Update: Hercog held it together better than I expected to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
23:00 – Dulko v Pervak
Rankings are 56 and 88. They haven’t played before.
Dulko starts at 1.48 on Betfair. Her form has been impressive this week and she has yet to lose a set. Pervak needed 3 sets to get past Hradecka in the last round but has also played to a high standard.
Dulko won the clay court tournament last week which gives an idea of the form she’s in. I expect her to take this match but it won’t be an easy one for her.
1.48 isn’t a great price to be backing in WTA and I will be waiting a little before getting involved. Ideally I’d like to be backing her above 1.70.
I’d expect Dulko to win in straight sets but if Pervak does take the opening set, then lay Pervak.
Neither player is a consistent server so you could try laying the server in the early games.
Update: Dulko won 6-1, 6-0.
