08:30 – Murray v Djokovic
Rankings are 5 and 3. Head to heads are 4-3 to Djokovic and whilst Murray has won their last 3 matches thay haven’t played for almost 2 years.
Both men played in semi finals full of excellent tennis. Murray went a set down to Ferrer which was the first set Ferrer had taken from him on hard courts. It wasn’t until the second set that he started going for his shots and being more aggressive that he started to take control of the match.
In the other semi final Djokovic was making defending champion Federer look quite ordinary. He beat him in straight sets. How often has that happened in a grand slam?
I tipped Djokovic to take the title and whilst it would be great to see British Murray win his first Major it would be a lot more exciting if he was English and not Scottish.
Anyone who has traded tennis for a while knows that if Murray plays aggressively fom the start that he can beat anyone. So why does it take Andy a set to figure that out every match? I suppose you could say that if he read this blog he would be on his way to becoming the Australian Open Champion 2011! But as he doesn’t he will start the match scared to make a mistake and Djokovic will punish his passive play.
Both players can bring out the big serves when the pressure is on. This will be a tight match but I feel Djokovic knows how too win the big matches more than Murray. Also Murray has had a day less to recover from the semis.
Djokovic starts at 1.70 on betfair. I will be backing him with half stake from the start and will add the rest after he breaks. I’ll be laying off some of the liability after the first set if he seems in control. If its a tight first set then I will hedge.
Update: Once again Murray didn’t turn up on the big occasion. Whilst there were flashes of the form that got him to the final he never really looked like he believed he could win.
As predicted at the start of the tournament Djokovic won 6-4, 6-2, 6-3.
