Oz Open – Week 1, Sunday night

I’m not sure how many of you will be trading during the nights So I’ll go for a couple of matches each night. If you are wanting to trade the morning games let me know or if you’re only able to do the first matches of the night I’ll try to do the picks that will be of use.

I’ll be in the chatroom for most of the sessions with perhaps one night off at the weekend. Everyone welcome whether or not you’re a member of TradeShark Tennis

As usual we have the SlamTracker scoreboard. Its usually fast although the US Open one wasnt the best. Also bet365 are showing live video although you will need a tenner in your account to be able to watch.

Ok I picked this one as there is already 38k matched with 4 hours to go…..

Midnight – Kubot v Querrey

Rankings are 72 and 18. They haven’t played before.

I think the reason this match has attracted more money than the others around it is that people are laying the American. He went out in the first round here last year although he  had just come back after a bad wrist injury. He lost last week in his only match of 2011 to Dolgopolov in straight sets. His form at the end of last season was terrible.

Kubot is no world beater but has the ability to string a few excellent games together and can serve reasonably well.

Querrey blamed his loss to Dolgopolov on the fact that he was trying new strings. I don’t buy that. He only won 60% of his service games.

I would expect Querrey to win over 5 sets but I feel there’s a strong chance he could start slowly.

Lay Querrey from the start and give Kubot a chance to break. If they get to 4-4 the price will have risen so you can take the small profit. If Querrey has been threatening to break serve you could back him at the higher price which could be 1.50ish depending on how easily ( or not ) he has been holding serve.

If Kubot takes the first set, back Querrey at the start of the second.

Update: Querrey did start slowly and was broken in the very first game. He came back to take the set but Kubot always looked dangerous and he levelled at 1 set all.

The match went to the final set and Kubot took the match 5-7, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 8-6.

06:30 – Karlovic v Dodig

Rankings are 73 and 82. They haven’t played before.

Karlovic is back from injury and had an excellent tournament in Qatar last week reaching the quarter finals. He beat Kohlschreiber in the second round.

Dodig plays more Challenger events and managed to win a tournament in November.

Karlovic will be improving his ranking in 2011 if he can continue to back up his big serve with solid groundstrokes. He will be too strong for Dodig.

Back Karlovic from the start.

Update: Disappointing from Karlovic. He lost the opening set but came back to lead 2-1. Dodig took the next 2 sets and the match 6-4, 3-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.
