Qatar ExxonMobil Open – Friday

15:00 – Federer v Davydenko

Rankings are 1 and 7. Head to heads are 12-1 to Fed but Davydenko won their last match.

Federer was all over Gulbis in the last match but having won the first set easily he seemed to lose concentration and interest and allowed his opponent to keep the second set tight. A late break of serve brought it to 1 set all.

Federer remembered why he was there and came through but he will need to be sharp for the whole game against Davydenko.

Davydenko had a tough match against Karlovic which, not surprisingly, went to 2 tie breaks. He looked the player most likely to break in the first set. I didn’t trade the second set.

Backing Federer on serve is an option as is waiting for him to break serve before backing him. He will be eager to get a little revenge for the last defeat and to put Davydenko back in his place.

I am looking forward to this game. I can just about get home in time 😉 . It will be a great match to watch.

Likely to be a 3 setter. Fed to win.

Update: Fed still has some work to do if he’s going to have a better season than the last one. I didn’t get home in time to see Davydenko win in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
