ATP, 17:30 – Bellucci v Cuevas
Cuevas leads their previous matches 3-1. All his wins were on clay. Bellucci’s win was on a hard court.
Cuevas has had a back problem for a while. It doesn’t stop him playing but slows him up a bit. He pulled out of the doubles last week because of it.
Bellucci doesn’t have a great record on hard courts but I expect him to take this match. Cuevas doesn’t back up his serve as well on courts other than clay.
Back Bellucci if he gets broken early.
WTA, 17:00 – Vandeweghe v Witthoeft
Vandeweghe has played just 1 match since her quarter final at Wimbledon. She lost to Mchale in 3 sets but was suffering with a slight lower back injury. She reached the quarter finals last year so the pressure is on her to perform.
Witthoeft has had 2 good wins in the qualifying rounds. Linette and Karatantcheva are not easy opponents. Her hard court record hasn’t been good but she has had tough opponents such as Petkovic and Radwanska.
If Vandeweghe is fit then I’d expect her to win this but as we don’t know whether she is over her back problem the match could well be more even.
I will lay Vandewehe if she gets an early break. I expect her to trade higher than 1.56 . The match outcome depends on Vandeweghe’s performance.
ATP, 01:00 – Coric v Tsonga
Tsonga is the defending champion. In his 3 other visits to this tournament he also has 2 semi finals.
Tsonga has played just 1 match since his third round finish at Wimbledon. He has played just 2 matches on hard courts this year.
Coric has had an excellent season on hard courts. He has won 7 of his last 10 on this surface. He has been playing with a lot of confidence this year.
I expect Tsonga to trade higher than his 1.29 SP. His preparation for defending his title is not good. We could lay Tsonga below 1.20 .I don’t want to back him until I see how he is playing. If he is serving well and striking the ball cleanly but still loses the opening set I will back Tsonga.
