15:00 – Azarenka v Zvonareva
Rankings are 13 and 11. Head to heads are 4-2 to Zvonareva. Azarenka has won their last 2 matches which were both in 2010.
Zvonareva beat Clijsters in the quarter final which is no mean feat. Azarenka has yet to lose a set this week.
Azarenka’s serve stats wouldn’t look out of place on an ATP stat sheet with her hitting 69% of first serves in and holding serve 81% of the time ( over the last month). Zvonareva’s first serve percentage is 62% and she holds 69% of the time.
Both players in great form so should be a close match but I give the edge to Azarenka.
Scalping and 15-40 in Azarenka’s favour should work well.
Update: Azarenka started the better of the two and served for the first set at 6-5. However she was broken and then lost the first set. In the second set she was broken early and retired shortly after. A few nervy minutes with this game as the scores feed was lost and the scoreboard froze, especially during the game at 6-5 in the first set.
Zvonareva won 7-6, 1-0(retired)
