Rogers Cup – Tue

Loads of great match-ups today!

Hanescu v Melzer

Rankings are 32 and 31 and head to head is 3-2 to Hanescu. The market prices are 2.5 and 1.65 .

Hanescu has had some decent results on clay but can he transfer that form to the faster courts? he got to the 3rd round at Wimbledon where he was beaten by Giles Simon which doesnt look good as just about ANYONE can beat Simon at the minute.

melzer has had a similar season and also reached the 3rd rounds at Wimbledon where Roddick knocked him out, although he took a set off him.

I think Hanescu will make a match of it and we should see some decent price movement. Melzer really should come through and if he can win the first set I think the second will be fairly easy.

Scalping is recommended as the strategy to use. When scalping on mens games on hard courts you are advised not to concentrate so much on 15-40 and more on watching how the serves are going and backing the server once he has held serve comfortably. If you get a 0-40 then jump on  🙂

Update: Hanescu DID make a game of it! He won 6-4, 6-3

Kohlschreiber v Berdych

Rankings are 25 and 18. Head to head is 4-0 to Berdych which makes his price of 1.59 look very attractive.

If you’re feeling brave, back Berdych at the start and green up either after the break of serve or at the end of the first set.

Alternatively, scalp his serve and see if he looks like he is on top before committing the back bet. He has looked pretty solid recently and also played in the hard court tournament last week. Kohlschreiber’s last tournament was on clay and i think he will struggle a little to adjust his game. That will be enough for Berdych to get in front early.

Update: Great scalping match but you would have needed your exit strategy if you’d backed Berych as I did! Turned out to be very profitable but not quite as stress free as if Berdych had done what he was supposed to!

Kohlschreiber won 7-6, 6-7, 6-4.

Haas v Karlovic

Should be interesting. Karlovic’s serve hasnt been firing on all cylinders and he relies on this heavily. Head to head is 4-1 on Karlovic’s favour and he won their last meeting.

Watch his first couple of service games and if he is hitting it well, back him at the start of his service games. Watch out for break point on Hass’ serve as I expect him to make a few more errors than his opponent.

The result is all down to the Karlovic serve. If it isnt firing, then Haas should come through but Haas won’t have an answer for Karlo’s booming first serve rockets.

Update:Only watched the first set as they had a rain delay. Karlo’s serve was below its best which gave Haas just enough edge.

Again, another good scalping match. The 3 matches hilight the benefit of not having to take a position before the match. Scalping allows you to take what the match gives you by way of opportunities. All you have to decide is how much risk you want to take.
