The season’s second major tournament starts on Sunday.
This year we go into the tournament with the King of Clay’s crown lying in the dirt. Djokovic has taken the last 2 clay tournaments and remains unbeaten in 2011. Nadal is playing below his best and will start any match with Djokovic with real doubts that he can beat him.
World number 3 Roger Federer is in a mini slump but is still capable of beating most players relatively easily. Other serious contenders include Soderling who has lifted his game for the last 2 French Opens although he has had to work hard for his wins on clay. He has recently beaten Almagro and Verdasco on clay. His match with Verdasco probably destroyed any confidence the Spaniard had left as he seemed to have found some form at last.
A surprise contender is Andy Murray. I have never really rated him on clay but he came as close as anyone to beating Djokovic last weekend. He also reached the semi final in Monte Carlo where he lost to Nadal in 3 sets.
Other players to watch are Del Potro, David Ferrer and perhaps Almagro who recently fought his way into the top 10 players. I’d expect these 3 to be around for the second week, allowing for a favourable draw.
Throughout the tournament, as always, the chatroom will be open. We have one of the busiest trading chatrooms around with knowledgable and friendly traders who are there to help each other, share ideas and have a laugh. Everyone is welcome as long as you’re respectful to other chatters and its particularly useful to new traders who may want to just watch the chat and pick up some pointers.
If you’re new to tennis trading the Tennis Guide is a good place to start. You will find links to independent reviews in the right hand sidebar of the blog.
Hope to see you in the chatroom!
